The 3rd floor Stacks (North/South)

A wide range of books and periodicals are on the 3rd floor North Stacks.
Reduced edition of newspapers and back issues of periodicals are on the 3rd floor South Stacks.
Students and teachers of Doshisha, full-time staff affiliated with Doshisha, and library cardholders are allowed to enter this floor. Please come to the Main Counter to get permission.
The Rare Books Room is also on the 3rd floor.
An application form must be filled out at the Main Counter when you use materials in the Rare Books Room.

Reading Rooms 3, 4, 5

Personal laptops or items with key touch sounds such as calculators can be used in Reading Room 5 and 1(B1F) not in Reading Room 3 and 4.
In Reading Room5, wireless LAN is available.
Various language dictionaries are available in each reading room.
Study booths are located in Reading Room 4.

The Group Study Rooms offer space for students to study together in groups (except extracurricular activities).

Main Counter

The following services are available at the Main Counter.
  1. Borrowing, returning and reserving of library materials
  2. Retrieving materials from the Stacks
  3. Inquiry about materials held in faculty libraries
  4. Making requests for entering the Stacks
  5. Receiving Interlibrary Loan materials
  6. Making requests for intercampus delivery service
  7. Making requests for using library facilities
  8. Applying for training sessions and workshops
  9. Issuance and renewal of library cards
  10. Retrieving materials for visitors


Main Counter

Reference Counter

For the effective use of the library and its resources, library staff are on hand at the Reference Counter to answer questions or offer advice on how to search for relevant literature and materials using a variety of reference tools.

Available services are:

Usage and Research Assistance
Assistance on how to research for literature, how to use DOORS and databases, where to find necessary materials, etc.

2.
Reference and Information
Advice on how to collect literature and materials regarding specific themes, answering questions about specific items and data, etc.

3.
Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery
Information about requests for using materials of faculty libraries, issuance of a letter of introduction to those who wish to use libraries of other universities and organizations, acceptance of request to obtain or to photocopy materials from other universities and organizations, etc.

General Collection Room

Centering on popular books, the General Collection Room houses new arraivals, paperbacks, pocket books, faculty collections (Faculties of Letters, Social Studies, Law・Seihokai, Economics,Commerce, and Policy Studies),Doshisha-related books, ESL-related books, etc.

Open-stack Reading Room

Periodicals Room

The Periodicals Room is stocked with current issues of popular periodicals (with back issues of some publications going back several years), research bulletins published by Doshisha University, etc.
Magazine Room

Reference Collection Room

The Reference Collection Room houses reference resources such as dictionaries, encyclopedias, bibliographies, indexes, white papers, statistics, almanacs, loose-leaf statute books, atlases, guidebooks, course descriptions, etc.

DOORS (Doshisha Online Retrieval System) Corner

The library databases of Doshisha University, containing information on the location, circulation status and availability of each item, can be searched via DOORS.
Terminals for DOORS are located at DOORS corner.

PC Corner

Software for word processing and spreadsheets is available through desktop computers in the PC Corner, as is Internet access.
ID authentication is required to use the PCs.

Newspaper Corner

Current issues of Japanese and foreign newspapers subscribed to by the library are available in the Newspaper Corner. For back issues, please ask at the Main Counter.

Braille dictionaries (English-Japanese, Japanese language,etc), Braille newspapers (weekly), voice guidance PC and Braille printer are available in this room. To use the room, please come to the Main Counter.

A wide range of books and microfiches are on the 1st Basement Stacks.
Students and teachers of Doshisha, full-time staff affiliated with Doshisha, and library cardholders are allowed to enter this floor. Please come to the Main Counter to get permission.

Multimedia Library

Multimedia resources such as videos, CD-ROMs, and DVDs, or foreign news programs such as CNN and BBC, as well as various language study materials are available at the Multimedia Library.
These items are in library-use only.
Using your own CDs and DVDs in the booths is not allowed.
Students and teachers of Doshisha, full-time staff affiliated with Doshisha, and library cardholders are eligible.

EU i (European Info)

The EU i is an information center set up by the European Commission in 19 universities in Japan and was established at Doshisha University in 1976. A range of information regarding the European Union (EU) can be found at the EU i. The center at Doshisha University mainly houses the Official Journal, COM Documents, statistics and annual reports. It is open to the general public.

Entrance

The Information is located in the entrance hall.
Student/teacher/staff ID, or a library card, is required to enter the library. Visitors from outside the university who wish to use library materials, or look around the library, need to contact the Information.
