Floor Maps

Imadegawa Library (Neiseikan)

Main Counter

    The following services are mainly provided at the Main Counter.
  1. Borrowing, returning, and reserving materials
  2. Information on how to use the materials held by faculty libraries
  3. Providing the requested materials and documents for Interlibrary Loan/Photocopy
  4. Acceptance of requests for the materials stored or held in some locations other than Imadegawa Library (Neiseikan).
  5. Acceptance of requests for using library facilities
  6. Signing up to training sessions and workshops
  7. Issuance and renewal of library cards
  8. Answering inquiries from visitors

Reference Counter

For the effective use of the library and its resources, library staff are on hand at the Reference Counter to answer questions or offer advice on how to search for relevant literature and materials using a variety of reference tools.
The following services are available at the Reference Counter.

  1. Usage and Search Assistance
    Assistance on how to search for literature, how to use DOORS and databases, where to find necessary materials, etc.
  2. Reference and Information
    Advice on how to collect literature and materials regarding specific themes, answering questions about specific items and data, etc.
  3. Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery
    Information about using materials held by faculty libraries, issuance of a letter of introduction to those who wish to visit and use other university and institution libraries, acceptance of requests to loan or photocopy materials held by other university and institution libraries.

General Collection Room

Frequently used materials in each field are shelved mainly. Pocket books, Doshisha-related materials, and books for extensive reading (ESL) are shelved as well.

Periodicals

Current issues of frequently used journals and research bulletins published by Doshisha University are available in this area.

Newspapers

The Library subscribes to various Japanese and foreign newspapers. Current issues are shelved here. For back issues, please request at the Main Counter.

Microform Readers/printers

To use microforms, an application in advance is required. Please inquire at the Main Counter, or submit the form .

Audio-visual Booths

Multimedia materials such as DVDs and CDs, as well as various language study materials can be used. These materials are for in-library use only, and available to students, faculty, staff, and the library card holders at Doshisha University. User’s own software cannot be brought into the booth. To use the booths, please apply at the Main Counter.

Entrance

User’s ID card (student/teacher/staff ID, or library card) is required to enter the library. Visitors from outside the University who wish to use library materials or look around the library need to contact the counter staff.

Book Return Slot

There is a book return slot at the entrance of the Neiseikan.

Bound Periodicals, Reduced-size Newspapers

Back issues of periodicals bound in volumes, as well as reduced-size editions of some newspapers are shelved here.

Reference Collection

Reference resources, such as encyclopedias, dictionaries, bibliographies, indexes, white papers, statistics, yearbooks, loose-leaf law books, maps, etc. are available for looking up something.

Braille Room, Reading Service Room

Braille dictionaries (English-Japanese, Japanese language, etc.), Braille newspapers (weekly), and a voice guidance PC are available in the Braille Room. To use the rooms, please apply at the Main Counter.

Outside

Hakuenkan Stacks, Off-campus Stacks

To obtain the material stored in Imadegawa Library Hakuenkan Stacks or Off-campus Stacks, you need to make a delivery request. Please place the material on reserve by clicking “Reservation” on the screen after searching on DOORS, or apply at the Main Counter by submitting the request form. An email notification will be sent to you once the requested item is ready to be picked up at the Main Counter. Requests for non-circulating materials* via DOORS are not acceptable. Please contact the Main Counter for any inquiries.
* Non-circulating materials are available for in-library use only.

Study Space

On the second floor of Neiseikan, the library provides a classroom (approx. 300 seats) that enable library users to read and study. Application is not required.

Silence

Silence is a room to study calmly.
Personal laptops or items with key touch sounds such as calculators can not be used in this room.

(This collection is selected by particular standard that is different from other books in this library.)

Extensive Reading Books (graded readers) are graded their word levels and sorted by publishers.

This is the section about foreign paperbacks mainly The Penguin Books which published in England.
These are the best materials for those who feel learning English with graded readers (ESL-related books) easy, and we encourage you to take advantage of them.

Multimedia Resources

Speaking Booth

Speaking Booth

In Speaking Booth, you can improve your English pronunciation and listening skill by using “AmiVoice”, a software for learning and practicing pronunciation. You can also use language study materials in the Multimedia Resources. Please come to the Main Counter if you’d like to use.

*If you want to play CDs that included ln the language study materials, an external drive is available. Please ask the staff at the Main Counter.

PC Space

PC Corner

PC Space is equipped with desktop computers. Users are free to search databases or use the Internet for their studies as well as prepare reports or presentation materials using a range of software.
ID authentication is required to use the PCs.

Stacks Entrance

There is Stacks Entrance at the second floor.
Back issues of periodicals and foreign paperbacks are located in the 2F Stacks, while back issues of almanacs, white papers and statistics, etc, general books, reference books, pocket books, rare books and closed-stacks are located in the 1F Stacks. No procedure is necessary to use these materials.

Mobile Phone Booth

You are allowed to use your mobile phones or smartphones only in this booth. Talking on your mobile phone is not permitted in the other area.
