The John Dewey Collection (about 4,000 volumes)
The collection was established in 1970 with a donation and the books written by an American philosopher and
educator, John Dewey, as well as reference materials related to the study of pragmatism, given by Tetsutaro
Yoshikawa, late professor emeritus at Doshisha University. The collection contains rare books, including ‘Les lois
de l’mitation: etude sociologique’, (written by Gabriel Tarde) originally owned by an American philosopher and
psychologist who founded pragmatism, William James (1842-1910), and Dewey’s autographic letters.
